Preservation Greensboro invites you to explore our communities Slave History with ICRCM

Reception Explores Slave History

Thursday, September 10
ICRCM Lobby, 134 South Elm Street
Reception 6:00pm
Program 6:30pm

Just a few months ago, a collection of very important records was discovered in the office of the Guilford County Register of Deeds. The documents were hundreds of deeds related to the enslavement of Guilford County citizens in the early ninetweenth century, including members of the extended Morehead family.

Join local experts - historians, educators, and cultural workers - for an evening led by Logie Meachum and the ICRCM exhibit host committee to explore the significance of these records. Discover more truths about slavery and the earlist forms of human trafficking in antebellum Greensboro. Get an up-close and personal view of historical relics and legal documents that reveal family genealogies previously unavailable. This temporary display is the launch of a larger exhibit that will delve into the deep and rich history of local families and heritages throughout the Triad. Visit the ICRCM.
