Among the oldest museums of the
Piedmont, the Museum of Old Domestic Life has flown under the radar for
generations. The museum dates back to 1927, when local historian John Jay Blair
suggested that the 1857 meetinghouse be re-used as space to showcase
curious and handmade artifacts from the surrounding Quaker community. Today,
the Museum of Old Domestic Life contains an eclectic collection of objects
found in homes of the Carolina Piedmont in the nineteenth century, including
furniture, tools, household objects, and textiles.
Museum volunteer Brenda Haworth
will provide a guided tour of the Museum, and explain local history through the
unique material culture of the Piedmont.
