4th of July is about freedom, independence, leadership - and those who fought to procure it.

A408Studio's Steve Johnson had the honor to witness the placement of a ceremonial wreath on the grave of Governor Motely Morehead at the Greensboro Historic Museum this morning.

Governor Morehead was born on the 4th of July and is widely known as the father of modern North Carolina.

Morehead's legacy in Greensboro and North Carolina is one to be proud of.  He is responsible for bringing the North Carolina Railroad to fruition and advocated for a unified state-wide transportation system including roads, highways and rivers.  He helped foster the region's textiles, furniture and tobacco heritage and was an early advocate for justice and civl rights - he helped create a school of higher education for woman.

Thank you to Zack Matheny, Nancy Hoffman, and Justice Bob Edmunds (Morehead's great-great-great grandson) for being in attendance to honor this great man on his country's birthday.

The Fourth of July is about celebrating our freedom, our independence, and our leadership - and for honoring those who gave all to fight for it.

Thank you, and God Bless you.
