Five vintage homes in the historic Hamilton Lakes neighborhood will open their doors to the public during Preservation Greensboro Incorporated’s fifth annual Tour of Historic Homes May 16-17. The walking tour highlights stunning features of early twentieth century Neoclassical, and Colonial Revival architecture as well as unusual designs such as a Mediterranean-inspired home and Mid-Century Modern homes. Participants will gain insights into local history along with artistic home design ideas.
“Hamilton Lakes was developed as a retreat away from the city,” says Benjamin Briggs, Executive Director of Preservation Greensboro. “It was designed along the lines of a resort community, with lakes, walking paths, gardens, playgrounds, and a golf course. The Great Depression scaled these plans back, but the post-war period witnessed vigorous development, characterized by some spectacular modern architecture.”
The annual Tour of Historic Homes is the signature fundraising and educational event of Preservation Greensboro. Proceeds support the nonprofit organization’s many initiatives including Governor Morehead’s Blandwood Mansion, educational seminar and preservation efforts.
Advanced General Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased at Blandwood, the Extra Ingredient in Friendly Shopping Center, online (click "BUY NOW") or by phone with a credit card at 336-272-5003 x3.
Tickets for the historic home tour are available the days of the tour at each tour home by cash, or at House #1 with cash, checks, or a credit card (Visa/Mastercard/Discover).
As part of the neighborhood celebration, a Village Fayre is planned for Saturday, May 16 from 11am-7pm. The Fayre is FREE and open to the public and includes food trucks, beer and wine sales, local arts and crafts vendors, live music beginning at 4pm, family and children’s activities.
