The power of human "power", hard work, and dedication

Doing your job can be tough sometimes, doing it right is always difficult.

I was inspired by a trip to a job site yesterday.  Our crew is in the process of retrofitting a building in Greensboro for a new tenant - Kofile Preservation Inc.  One of the big tasks is updating the plumbing system to accommodate more plumbing fixtures... and that generally means tearing up concrete and digging a deep hole that you know is already full of pipe that someone else installed - decades ago. This project is no different.

Who digs holes by hand anymore?  John Beal, with John Beal plumbing said "we do - its just easier to do it by hand, you don't have to worry about breaking anything... and its good exercise for me - its cathartic.  We just started digging, and before too long, we were 4' down".  The power of human power hard work, and dedication.

That is an understatement, 4' down... and 20' feet long.  And that is just 1/2 of the job.

In this day and age when a rented piece of heavy equipment likely would have made the job a little quicker (at least the the first 3 feet), but certainly a whole lot easier, hard work and common sense prevailed.

Just think about this the next time you hire a professional trades person - ask them if the price includes doing it right.
