Sometimes you don’t always see the treasures sitting right next door.

For a century, a relatively modest, wood frame home stood on Spring Garden Street, near UNC-Greensboro.  For some, it was, “Part of the past.”  For Benjamin Briggs and Preservation Greensboro and architect and builder, Steve Johnson, it was a treasure – admittedly, one that needed a little polishing.
It was once the home of Carrie and Charles Angle — a classic example of the, “Foursquare,” design that was popular among the upper middle class of the early 20thcentury.  And the Angles did very well, with Charles as a lumber merchant and Carrie being the daughter of the wealthiest man in Henry County, Va.
But the house they moved into on that corner of Spring Garden Street, a good stone’s throw from the University, changed over the years.  It was divided up into apartments when the church next door owned it in the later years and was damaged by a fire in 2011.
That’s when it’s “beauty makeover” lead by Preservation Greensboro and Steve Johnson’s architecture and design firm, began.
